Merbau Hardwood Timber slat fence with Steel frame

There are two options when a plinth is needed to stop movement of soil from one property to another under a Colorbond steel fence.

The timber plinth as pictured below has been used for a number of years but it too is susceptable to rot over time. 

The Gramline steel plinth can be colour matched to the fence sheets. it is a thicker high grade galvanised steel that will not rust unless it is deeply scratched to bare metal.

Metroll Colorbond® Fence with Slotted lattice

A relatively new style of Lattice inserts is available. Along with a new colour range. This slotted lattice is becoming more popular as time goes on with Modern style homes, fences need to move with home styles and preferences. The colour of the fence displayed above is called "Jasper"

METROLL Colorbond® With PVC insert

PVC PLINTH is a product that is relatively new in the market. It has been popular due to it's tidy appearance and availability in colours matching the fence.

The product is only useful as a gap filler and has minimal soil retention properties. It will not rot like timber and treated properly over its life it will last as long as the fence itself.

Being PVC it may become brittle when exposed to long periods of sunlight after 10-20 years.

This Metfence® is Riversand coloured posts and rails with Summershade sheets. The PVC plinth are also available in riversand Colorbond color.

Sliding Gate Powered (Video)

The Sliding gate gives an attractive and tidy finish to a front fence. The Style is called "Lawson" which incorporates the spear and ring double top rail pattern.

This type of driveway gate has a number of benefits.

 a. Space saving - A car can be parked in the driveway close to the gate which can still be closed unlike a standard inward opening double gate.
b. No sagging posts - The weight of the gates on a standard double gate eventually cause the gate posts to lean inwards causing the gate to not close properly.
 c. Easy to close- Manually closing sliding gates only require feather touch to close (if tracks are clean)The motor will never burn out as there is almost no pressure required to close gate.

This gate is a manual opening  sliding gate built in Metroll Metline style Colorbond fencing.

METROLL Metline® Colourbond® Lattice panel

Another variation of a Colourbond Metroll Metline® fence. The addition of the Top Frieze lattice gives the fence a softer more pleasing appearance when the fence is a dominant part of the landscape. This fence pictured is 2.25 metres tall including the 200mm timber plinth insert.

The fence is improved by the dark (Grey ridge) and light (Merino) colourbond colours combination. If the fence needs to blend in with the landscape and not detract from a view then plain colour should be used. But where the fence is the dominant feature or backdrop to a garden view, then the fence should become a work of art. If it isn't then effort needs to be made to hide the fence.

Steel posted Timber fence

Modern Timber fences have a fatal flaw. The posts are susceptible to rot under the ground. The red-gum posts of the distant past lasted well, up to 45 years. Too many times I have seen fences with years of life left in them falling over due to the posts losing footing. This option is a good one.

Here is a fence that will outlast other timber fences. This fence incorporates 65mmx65mm galvanised tube posts as the supporting structure with welded on brackets to hold the rails.
The other option (below) is Aussie Galvanised steel posts, an option with similar pricing to a timber posted fence but using concrete means the fence will be a lot more stable and stay upright a lot longer.

Another type of steel gate is the colorbond steel gate. They are available in a fully welded frame gate (Below) or the cheaper option Kit gate which has the benefit of being able to be made to size on site (Above) These gates are available in the fence range of colorbond colors. Different profiles are also available depending on the company.
